3. Scope of This Policy

This Policy applies exclusively to information collected through the Site. It does not apply to:

  • Information collected by third-party websites that may be linked from the Site, including but not limited to affiliate partner websites, social media platforms, and external service providers. Each of these operates under its own privacy policy.
  • Information collected through offline interactions, in-person meetings, professional bookings, or service contracts. Such interactions are governed by separate agreements where applicable.
  • Information you choose to share publicly on third-party platforms where Tyler Jurelle maintains a presence (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube). Those platforms’ privacy practices apply.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites or services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you interact with.

4.1 Personal Identifiers

We collect the following personal identifiers only when you voluntarily provide them:

  • Name – When you submit a contact form, subscribe to the newsletter, or leave a comment on a blog post.
  • Email address – Required for newsletter subscription, contact form responses, and any direct correspondence.
  • Phone number – Collected only if you voluntarily provide it (for example, in a service inquiry or support request).
  • Mailing address – Collected only if you voluntarily provide it for service-related correspondence.
  • Other information you choose to share – Any additional information you include in messages, comments, or form submissions is collected as part of that submission.

4.2 Technical and Usage Data

When you visit the Site, certain technical information is automatically collected. This includes:

  • Device information – Browser type and version, operating system, device type (desktop, mobile, tablet), and screen resolution. This information is collected by Kadence Advanced Forms when you submit a form, and by analytics services as described below.
  • Aggregated traffic data – Page views, referrer URLs, pages visited, click paths, and approximate geographic location at the country level. This data is collected by Plausible Analytics in an anonymized, aggregated form.

We do not collect or store full IP addresses for analytics purposes. IP addresses may be temporarily processed by infrastructure services (such as our hosting provider and content delivery network) for security and routing purposes only.

4.3 Content You Submit

We collect content you voluntarily submit through the Site, including:

  • Comments – Any text you submit as a comment on a blog post, including your displayed name or pseudonym, optional email address (used for moderation notifications only), and timestamp.
  • Contact form submissions – Any text, files, or attachments you include when submitting a contact form.

  • Bing Webmaster Tools – Search performance data collected by Microsoft when users find the Site through Bing Search.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile – Bot and abuse detection data collected during form submissions to verify human interaction.
  • QUIC.cloud CDN – Content delivery network data, including request metadata used to serve cached content efficiently.

We do not have direct access to the raw data collected by these services. We receive only aggregated reports or summary statistics.


5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  1. To respond to inquiries – Replying to messages submitted through the contact form or sent directly to our email address.
  2. To deliver the newsletter – Sending newsletter content to subscribers who have explicitly opted in.
  3. To moderate comments – Reviewing, approving, or removing comments submitted to blog posts.

  • Legitimate Interests – For purposes such as Site security, fraud prevention, traffic analytics, and improving Site functionality. We balance our legitimate interests against your privacy rights.
  • Legal Obligation – When we are required by law to process or retain certain data.

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

9. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise commercially exploit your personal information.

The Site is operated from the United States. By using the Site, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States, Switzerland (Proton), and the European Economic Area (Plausible).

Where required by applicable law, we rely on:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission for transfers from the EEA.
  • Adequacy decisions where the receiving country has been recognized as providing adequate protection.
  • Other lawful transfer mechanisms as required by applicable law.

Switzerland, where Proton is headquartered and operates its servers, has been recognized by the European Commission as providing adequate data protection.


11. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes outlined in this Policy or as required by law:

  • Email correspondence (Proton Mail) – Our retention goal is to delete email correspondence approximately ninety (90) days after the most recent interaction. We are working to fully automate this process; until then, deletion is performed manually on a periodic basis. You may request immediate deletion of your correspondence at any time.
  • Files stored on Proton Drive – Retained only as long as necessary to support active correspondence or service relationships.
  • Newsletter subscriber data – Retained until you unsubscribe. Upon unsubscription, your email address is removed from the active mailing list within thirty (30) days.
  • Comments – Retained indefinitely as part of the published blog post, unless you request removal.
  • Plausible Analytics data – Retained in aggregated form according to Plausible’s retention policies.
  • Search engine reporting data (Google, Bing) – Retained by the respective providers under their own policies. We do not store raw data locally.
  • Form submission metadata (Kadence Advanced Forms) – Retained as long as necessary to respond to the submission, then deleted.

If you wish to have your information deleted before these retention periods expire, please contact us using the information in Section 22.


12. Data Security

We implement reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction:

  • Transport Layer Security (TLS) – All data transmitted between your browser and the Site is encrypted in transit.
  • End-to-end encryption – Email and file storage through Proton Mail and Proton Drive are protected by zero-access encryption. Even Proton cannot decrypt the contents.
  • Access controls – Access to personal information is limited to Tyler Jurelle and any authorized service providers strictly as needed.
  • Bot mitigation – Cloudflare Turnstile validates human interaction without retaining personal identifiers.
  • Encrypted storage – Backups of Site data are stored on encrypted storage solutions.

Despite these measures, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is one hundred percent secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and disclaim liability for unauthorized access by third parties beyond our reasonable control.


13. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

13.1 General Rights

All users, regardless of jurisdiction, may:

  • Request information about the personal data we hold about them
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of their personal data

There is no fee for exercising your rights, except in cases where requests are manifestly unfounded or excessive, in which case we may charge a reasonable fee or refuse the request.


14. Children’s Privacy

The Site is not intended for or directed at children under the age of sixteen (16). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under sixteen.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child under sixteen has provided personal information through the Site, please contact us immediately. We will take prompt steps to delete that information.

The Site complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent international laws regarding the protection of minors.


15. Automated Decision-Making and Profiling

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal effects or similarly significant effects concerning you. The Site does not make automated decisions about users.

Cloudflare Turnstile performs automated bot detection during form submissions, but this process does not produce legal effects and is used solely to prevent abuse.


16. Affiliate Links and Commission Disclosures

The Site contains affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and complete a qualifying action (such as making a purchase, signing up for a service, or completing a referral), we may earn a commission or referral reward at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate links may appear in two locations on the Site:

  1. Within blog posts – Links may be embedded directly in article text or presented through interactive elements such as product carousels or comparison widgets.
  2. The Shop page – Located at https://tylerjurelle.com/shop/, this page features curated product recommendations linked to brand partners through our affiliate URLs. Products are not sold directly through the Site; clicking takes you to the brand’s official website.

When you click an affiliate link:

  • No personal data about you is transmitted from us to the affiliate partner.
  • The affiliate partner or affiliate network may set its own cookies or tracking identifiers in your browser, governed by their own privacy policies.
  • We receive only aggregate commission and conversion reporting from affiliate partners, not your personal information.

When you submit a comment on a blog post, the following is collected and displayed:

  • Your email address (collected for moderation purposes only and not displayed publicly)

Comments are publicly visible on the associated blog post and may be indexed by search engines. By submitting a comment, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, reproduce, and moderate your comment on the Site.

You may request removal of your comments at any time by contacting us.

We reserve the right to moderate, edit, or remove comments that violate our community standards, including spam, abusive language, or content that infringes on the rights of others.


18. Newsletter Subscription

If you voluntarily subscribe to the newsletter, we collect your email address, an optional name, and the date of subscription. Newsletter content is dispatched through Proton Mail’s encrypted infrastructure.

You may unsubscribe at any time by:

Upon unsubscription, your email address is removed from the active mailing list within thirty (30) days. Archived newsletter records may be retained for legal or business purposes consistent with this Policy’s retention schedule.


19. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach that compromises your personal information and is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will:

  1. Notify the relevant supervisory authorities within seventy-two (72) hours of becoming aware of the breach, where required by law (including under GDPR Article 33).
  2. Notify affected individuals without undue delay where the breach is likely to result in a high risk to their rights and freedoms.
  3. Provide information about the nature of the breach, the categories of data affected, the likely consequences, and the measures taken or proposed to address it.
